En raison de la nature naturellement transitoire de notre centre de recherche, nous avons beaucoup de personnes remarquables qui passent et repartent: que ce soit pour un stage, pour terminer un diplôme ou pour participer comme chercheur invité. Nous voulions garder un espace pour honorer tous ceux qui ont travaillé avec nous pour faire avancer la recherche!
Shainuka Kannathas
Catriona Czyrnyj
Catriona obtained her B.A.Sc. in 2014 in Mechanical Engineering and has been working in the MFM Lab since November 2015, where she completed her Master’s thesis in 2017. Catriona pursued her PhD in Biomedical Engineering under Drs. Linda McLean and Michel Labrosse, and her research focused on biomedical imaging, tissue mechanics, and biomechanics of the female urogenital system. Cat defended her thesis in 2021.
Cat is currently working as an R&D Engineer with Baylis Medical Technologies and teaches as a sessional lecturer in the Deportment of Engineering at the University of Toronto.
Ana Brennan
As of April 2022, Ana successfully defended her MASc thesis, titled: “Design and Bench Validation of a Mechanical Intravaginal Dynamometer Mechanism”.
Ana is currently working as a Sustainment Engineer with WOW tech group.
Megan Vandermolen
Megan successfully defended her MASc thesis, “Semi-Automated Detection of Bladder Neck Funnelling and Measurement of Posterior Urethrovesical Angle in Females” in April 2022.
Megan is currently working as an Analyst with Indigo Books.
Dr. Joanna Reeves
Jo vient de terminer son doctorat en biomécanique à l'Université de Salford, au Royaume-Uni. Celui-ci portant sur l'effet des orthèses plantaires sur l'activité et la morphologie des muscles, la biomécanique du pied et la sensibilité de la peau. Pendant la dernière partie de son doctorat, Jo était basée à l'Université de Guelph. Durant cette période, elle a participé à un projet de collaboration avec l'Université de Salford. Son projet portait sur les mécanorécepteurs de la plante du pied et comment ceux-ci réagissent à des charges similaires à celles subies lors de la marche. Il se concentrait aussi sur l'influence de la texture sur les sens kinesthésiques dans les articulations. L'EMG à fil fin des tibiales postérieures était une partie fondamentale de la thèse de doctorat de Jo. Son plan est de faire de recherches, dans un postdoctorat à court terme avec la Dre McLean, sur certaines questions méthodologiques avec des électrodes à fil fin. Avec son expérience et son intérêt constant pour la démarche et la biomécanique clinique, Jo participera aux travaux sur l'incontinence urinaire à l’effort induite par la course à pied chez les femmes avec l'aide de Marie-Ève Bérubé, qui mène le projet.
Dr. Rachel Luo Qiu
Rachel Luo Qiu a reçu son diplôme de médecine et sa formation comme résidente au deuxième hôpital affilié à l'Université de médecine de KunMing. En 2011, elle a terminé sa formation de physiatre au département de médecine physique et de réadaptation. Elle a également suivi une formation au département de neurologie à l'hôpital HuaShan de l'université de FuDan. Rachel est actuellement étudiante au doctorat à l'Université polytechnique de Hong Kong. Ses études doctorales portent sur la relation entre le flux sanguin cérébral et les problèmes neuro-développementaux chez les prématurés. Elle a une formation en électro-neurophysiologie et un intérêt constant pour la neurophysiologie de l'incontinence chez les femmes. Présentement, elle travaille avec la Dre McLean pour approfondir la recherche sur la neurophysiologie du sphincter urétral et du plancher pelvien.
Beatriz Martin Arranz
Beatriz Arranz recieved her Bachelor’ degree in Physiotherapy in 2013 at the University of Alcalá (Spain). In 2014, she recieved her MSc in Manual Therapy in Musculoskeletal System. Since graduated, she has been combining clinical practice and postgraduate courses, primarily worked on therapeutic exercise and manual therapies. In 2016 she started the International PhD in Health Science, working in researching, teaching and clinical areas from Physiotherapy in Women’s Health Research Group in Spain. Her research focuses on pregnancy and postpartum muscular evaluation with ultrasound imaging and electromyography. Beatriz is presently carrying out a research stay with Dr. McLean team at the University of Ottawa within her PhD in their women’s health projects.
Merrill Pappin
Merill joined the MFM team following her graduation from the Bachelor of Health Science program at the University of Ottawa. She continued to work with the MFM team through her first year of her Master’s of Physical Therapy from Queen’s University. We wish her the best with her career as a physiotherapist.
